Dry Stone Discovery Weekend, 29/30 March 2025

Stone of Arc is celebrating … come join us!

Our latest stone masterpiece – a magnificent courtyard with pillars, carvings, an arch, herringbone panels, cobbled stone and much more – is complete. To mark this milestone, and eight years of dry stone education, our Training Centre, one of only three in the world, will be open to the public this weekend 29-30 March 9am-4pm, 30 Brennans Way, Mount Arthur, Wellington.

Enjoy our beautiful walls and other stunning installations in a beautiful garden setting. See professional wallers strut their stuff, support the competitors in Australia’s inaugural walling competition (Saturday 9-3.30) and challenge the young ones on our kids wall. And have any question you’ve ever had about walling or stones answered.

We’re also celebrating the launch of the Dry Stone Way, one of only two dry stone feature trails in the world. Yes, here in Wellington! There are six impressive installations incorporating wildlife, rivers, mountains, canoes, totems  even a pint of Guinness! - all crafted from dry stone. It’s taken us four years to build ….now it’s time for you to enjoy! Navigate to ‘The Dry Stone Way’ via our home page or pick up a map at Wellington Information Centre, Western Gallery or Stone of Arc Training Centre.

And on Saturday night we’ll be chilling with live music amidst the beautifully illuminated walls: Musical Illuminations 7-10pm. All welcome for a very special evening. BYO refreshments and chair.

All events are FREE and will be on, rain or shine.

"Walling to me is wholly engaging. It’s my gym, my art class, my mindfulness session and my trip to the country all rolled into one. It requires time, precision and order, patience, resilience, and attention to detail. It connects the past with the future and delivers a beautiful, sustainable structure and unrivalled sense of pride and satisfaction".
